All the goings on at KMS with 3 weeks until showtime!
The last fortnight has been a flurry of activity for all involved in KMS's 2014 production of "Michael Collins - A Musical Drama" With just three weeks until opening night and tickets selling faster than Eoin Larkin heading for goal, KMS is looking all set for another fantastic production.
Rehearsals are coming thick & fast with all our members displaying an extraordinary amount of energy, focus & enthusiasm for hours spent reliving the events of Ireland at the turn of the 20th century. St Kierans College and O’ Faoilans of John Street have been fantastic in their support for a rehearsal space and as can be seen from the pictures below, the sights & sounds from these venues have been pretty epic of late! Sunday last saw our production team of Christine Scarry, Patrick Clancy & Gemma Grant take the show through a full run and all three were delighted with the result. It looks like we are on track for another first class production. And sure believe it or not we even manage to have a bit of craic on the side!!!
‘Collins – still a radio & TV star in 2014’
When picking the 2014 show, the KMS committee had a feeling that audiences would be enthralled by the musical re-telling of Michael Collins’ inspiring but tragic story. However even they have been pleasantly surprised at the level of national, and indeed even international interest that our 2014 production is generating. Following on from our highly successful launch at Stephens’ Barracks, both the local & national papers ran a story on the display of Collins’ last shilling at the military museum. This fascinating reconnection with the life of the ‘big fella’ even managed to excite the journalists at Irishcentral.com – a website dedicated to uniting Irish people around the world with common interest news and information about Ireland & its culture. This flurry of exciting publicity sending ripples through the press & internet culminated in an appearance on the Six-One, and 9 O'Clock news when the float entered by KMS in this year’s St Patrick’s day parade was featured on a news piece focusing on parades around the country. Aside from being a fantastic opportunity to inform the local & international people of Kilkenny about our upcoming production, the parade was also a day of fun for all members who took part.
'A flurry of fundraising'
In order to raise some vital funds for our 2014 production, the committee have thought long & hard about ways to raise money but also add a bit of craic to proceedings! The Michael Collins Super Draw was launched last week where members are being asked to sell raffle tickets for a grand draw which will be held on the last night of the show. It involves selling tickets sealed in an envelope with buyers paying whatever number is on the ticket as their price! A bit of gamble involved! The fantastic prizes include 500euro in cash, 250 euro in cash and two weekend tickets to Garth Brooks. We encourage all our members to get selling & to all their families & supporters…..get buying!!!
